About the resort
The region in which the city of Varna and its surroundings are located falls into the northern most part of the Mediterranean Subtropical region and the climate here has a continental-Mediterranean character. Aside from that, it is strongly influenced by the sea in the narrow coastal strip and is different from the climate in the inland. This softening influence extends to up to 30-50 km inland. Higher moisture contents in the air, the presence of iodine vapors and convectional clouds characterize the climate here.
Monthly average temperatures and rainfall
Winter is soft with very little snow, and when there is snow it melts quickly. The comparatively warmer sea water influences the climate and the winter air temperature is higher. The average winter temperatures are between -2° to 5°С. Up to 2-3 times during the winter there are storms with strong wind and snow. The spring comes late because the temperature of the sea rises up slower and the warming up usually barely happens in May when the temperatures reach even up to 20°С. Till then fogs and the cool weather characterize the season.
The summer is dry and moderately warm, with a lot of sunshine. It is characterized by breezes originating thanks to the open sea area. During the day they blow from the sea to the coast, bringing cool air and allowing temperatures in the 25°С - 30°С range to be accepted as pleasurable. The sea water temperature reaches up to 25°С - 28°С.
During the active tourist season there are more than 300 hours of sunshine a month and cloudy skies in this period are a rarity. In the fall the sea also influences the weather - thanks to the slower cooling of the warmed up sea water autumn comes late and it is warmer. The absolute maximum temperature measured on 10 July 1927 in Varna is +41.4°С, and the absolute minimum measured -24.3° - on 10 February 1929, when the sea froze.
Rainfall figures in the Varna region are one of the lowest in the country. It rains the most in June and November (approximately 50 l/m2), and the driest weather is in August-September, when the rainfall is no more than 30-32 l/m2 per month.
Favorable climate and geographical conditions have established Varna and the close by complexes as first class sea and balneological resorts.
